Postdoctoral Research Fellows within Humanities and Social Sciences, Örebro University, Sweden

Örebro University (Sweden) is building its research on strong research leaders and on research environments with long-term, national and international research collaborations.
To strengthen our research further, five career-building research positions aimed at promising researchers are now announced. As one of the position holders, you will have the opportunity to advance your research qualifications at one of the university’s established research environments. Together with the senior and junior researchers within the environment in question, you will be given the chance to enhance your research leadership skills. On completion of the four-year fellowship, you are expected to have facilitated the establishment or further development of a research group that is attracting external research funding among both national and international competition.
It is Örebro University’s ambition that you as a holder of a postdoctoral research fellowship after the four-year period will be able to carry on your duties as a research group leader at Örebro University.
Duties and responsibilities
As a postdoctoral research fellow you will be pursuing research within one of the university’s existing research groups/environments. You will yourself contribute to the setup of a new research group linked to one of the university’s successful research domains. Further, you should apply for own research grants and be actively involved on the doctoral programme of the subject in question. The work may also involve some teaching and administrative duties.
As part of the scheme, special resources will be invested in the position holder, among other things:
- research resources, including research infrastructure, and
- a comprehensive skills enhancement programme, involving leadership as well as teaching and learning in higher education.
Specific performance goals are linked to the position. If these goals are met, Örebro University will initiate a process aiming to offer you a position as senior lecturer. During your postdoctoral research fellowship, you are expected to have initiated own research projects; been published in international journals; received external research grants; and obtained the qualifications required for the appointment as a docent. You are also expected to have completed supervisor training and courses in teaching and learning in higher education. Towards the end of the fellowship, you will have further developed the research group/research specialisation that you have been associated with, alternatively initiated the establishment of your own research group.
Qualifications
Qualified for the appointment as a postdoctoral research fellow are applicants who have obtained a degree of doctor or equivalent academic qualifications. Candidates of primary interest should be those who have obtained their doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications no more than seven years prior to the application deadline.
Assessment criteria
Special attention will be paid to any qualities and abilities with which the applicant, in developing as an independent researcher, will be able to contribute to the development of the university. A general assessment criterion for the appointment is the ability to work together with other people as well as such ability and suitability that are otherwise required to carry out the duties well.
In the appointment process, particular attention will be paid to research expertise which you will have demonstrated by:
- having pursued research with an impact both prior to and after the defence of your thesis at a university in Sweden or abroad;
- being a potentially excellent researcher in so far as you are able to pursue, autonomously, innovative research to a high international standard;
- having obtained own research funding; and
- describing your planned research under the conditions provided by the fellowship.
